What’s in a name?

As I was pricing a few new Kasmir Fabric sample books, I started noticing the names of the fabrics.  If you don’t know, fabric patterns have specific names.  The average person might say paisley but, there are a bazillion different paisleys.  Some are small, some are large, some have flowers, some have birds, some have several colors, some…. well…you get the idea.

The fabric company that prints or weaves the fabric gives a name to each specific pattern.  I can’t even imagine naming scores of fabric patterns.  As I read the names, some are obvious but, for others,  I think the people with the naming jobs decided to have a good time.  Here are a few examples.  I hope they make you smile.

Perhaps the person naming was oblivious when thinking of a name.

This isn’t the name that immediately comes to my mind, but it is a fun word and I guess it is a little flouncy.

Hmm…  maybe I can see it.

I don’t know why this pattern got name shimmy but, it is even more fun to say than Flouncy.

Again, not my first thought but, as a person who has spent more than her fair share of time in traffic, I kind of get it.

The new books have these patterns as you see them.  They might even have them with the same name and a different color.  Come check them out.

Before I go, here are two more names that are not in the new books but they are still fun to say.

Until next time…
